Yes. ProperLease reads a plain CSV and brings across the three records that take longest to type by hand: properties, tenants, and payment history. You confirm how your columns map to its fields, so you are never forced to reshape your spreadsheet to a fixed template.
Expenses, utilities, and leases are added inside the app rather than imported, because each one depends on a property or tenant existing first.
Prepare the file
- Save the sheet you want as a CSV.
- Make the first row a header row, one column per field: address, tenant name, email, unit, rent amount, payment date, payment amount, and so on.
- Put one record on each row. One row per property, one per tenant, one per payment.
- Use a consistent date format and strip currency symbols from amount columns so numbers read as numbers.
If one sheet mixes properties, tenants, and payments, import them as three files in that order. Properties first, tenants next, payments last, so each record has something to attach to.
What to do in ProperLease
- Open Import from the More menu.
- Choose CSV and select your file. ProperLease previews the rows it found.
- Map your columns to its fields. Anything you leave unmapped is skipped.
- Confirm the import. Properties are created first, tenants attached to them, then payments recorded against the right tenant.
- Open the Dashboard, switch to Year to date, and check the collected rent matches what you were tracking before.
Re-importing a file creates duplicate payments. If you need a second pass, remove the rows that already came across first.
