No. ProperLease is a system of record, not a payment processor. Your tenants pay you the way they already do (e-transfer, direct deposit, cheque, or cash) and you log the payment in the app. No money passes through ProperLease.
There is no ACH debit, no Interac integration, no Plaid bank connection, and no rent payment processing of any kind.
Why that is the design, not an omission
Moving other people's rent means holding funds, handling failed and reversed payments, chargebacks, and money transmission licensing in every province and state. That is a different business with a different risk profile, and the fee usually lands on a landlord operating on thin margins or gets passed to the tenant.
Keeping the money in your own bank and the record in ProperLease means you keep your existing arrangement with each tenant, and you keep the full fee.
What you get instead
- A ledger that knows what each lease owes for each period, and what is still outstanding
- Automatic reminders to the tenant before and after the due date, so you are not the one chasing
- One-tap confirmation when the money lands
- Receipts emailed to the tenant
- A year-end export built from the same entries
What to do in ProperLease
- Agree a payment method with your tenant as you normally would, and write it into the lease.
- Set the rent amount and due day on the lease so ProperLease knows what to expect.
- Turn on rent reminders under Notifications so the nudge is automatic.
- Log the payment the moment it lands, or tap Mark paid from the dashboard or the overdue email.
ProperLease uses Stripe to bill you for Premium. It is not used to collect rent from your tenants.
