The lease PDF is an output, not the master record. If a term is wrong, correct it on the lease in ProperLease (rent, term dates, deposit) and generate the document again, then use the new PDF. You are editing the data and re-rendering, not opening the file in an editor.
That is deliberate: the PDF and the numbers in your reports come from the same record, so they cannot drift apart.
If the lease is already signed
Once both parties have signed, you are past the point where regenerating fixes anything. A signed lease is a contract, and changing it requires the agreement of both parties, usually as a written amendment or addendum signed alongside the original. Regenerating a new PDF on your own does not change what was agreed.
For a change that lands at the end of the term, use a renewal instead. See how do I handle a lease renewal.
What to do in ProperLease
- Open Leases and select the lease.
- Correct the rent, term dates, or deposit.
- Generate the document again and download the new PDF.
- If rent changed, update the monthly rent on the tenant record too, so payment statuses compare against the right figure.
- Keep the signed copy on the lease record once it is executed.
The lease rent and the tenant's monthly rent are separate fields. If only one is updated, your Paid, Behind, and Overdue statuses will be measured against the old number.
Amending a signed tenancy agreement is governed by your province or state. Confirm the process before relying on an amendment.
