No. There is no tenant login and no tenant portal. A tenant in ProperLease is a record you own, not a user who signs in. Nothing is asked of your tenants beyond giving you an email address.
They still hear from the app, just through their inbox. Rent reminders, payment receipts, notices, and lease documents all arrive as ordinary email, sent by you or automatically on your behalf, with replies going to you.
Why it is built this way
Every record in ProperLease belongs to exactly one landlord account, and access is enforced at the database level against that account. There is no path by which a tenant, or anyone else, could read your records. Asking your tenants to create accounts would mean opening that door, and for a small portfolio it buys very little.
It also removes friction that kills adoption. You do not have to talk a tenant into downloading anything before you can start tracking rent.
What the tenant actually receives
- A rent reminder before the due date, and a follow-up after it, if you have those turned on
- A payment receipt when you log their rent, if they have an email on file
- Any notice you generate, as a PDF attached to an email
- The lease PDF, which you send when it is ready to sign
What to do in ProperLease
- Put a current email address on every tenant record. It is the single field the whole communication flow depends on.
- Add a phone number for quick contact and for sharing documents over WhatsApp.
- Open Notifications to set which messages go to the tenant, which go to you, and how many days before or after the due date they send.
